Around Cannock and Hednesford, tarmac is a popular choice for replacing worn developer drives and for larger plots towards Huntington and Norton Canes. It is hard wearing, good value and quick to lay.
We remove the old surface, build a compacted base and lay the tarmac in two layers, then roll it properly. The site visit is free and the price is fixed in writing.

A lot of the tarmac we replace here was laid thin, straight onto the ground. It cracks, then the cracks let water in, and it breaks up from there. A proper base is what stops that happening again.
A block paved border is worth considering on estate houses. It frames the drive, holds the edges and gives it a finished look for not much extra.
On the estates around Chadsmoor, Bridgtown and Heath Hayes, some of the original tarmac drives were laid quickly and thinly, sometimes straight onto disturbed ground. After a few winters they crack, the cracks let water in, and the frost does the rest. Laying new tarmac on top of that just moves the problem a few years down the road.
A proper job starts with digging out to firm ground, laying and compacting a stone sub-base, then two layers of tarmac: a base course for strength and a finer surface course on top. It sounds obvious, but it is what makes the difference between a drive that lasts and one that needs patching after a couple of winters.
Around Norton Canes and Huntington there are more bungalows and older houses with long drives and garages at the back. For those, tarmac with a block border at the road end, and a channel drain in front of the garage, gives a hard wearing drive that keeps water out of the garage. We can also add a block paved parking bay alongside if you need the extra space.
If your kerb is not already dropped, you need permission from Staffordshire County Council before you can drive across the pavement in Cannock. It is worth applying early, because approval is not instant. We measure up with the kerb in mind so the driveway lines up with it.
Paving more than five square metres of a front garden needs planning permission from Cannock Chase District Council, unless the rainwater drains into a border, a soakaway or a permeable surface on your own property. We plan the drainage on the site visit so your driveway meets the rule.
Many of the estates around Cannock, Hednesford and Heath Hayes have narrow roads and tight parking, so we plan deliveries and the skip around your neighbours' cars before the job starts.
