New-build gardens around Cannock, Hednesford and Heath Hayes often come with a small slab patio laid straight onto the ground. Replacing it with something bigger and better laid is one of the most common jobs we see.
We dig out, build a proper base and lay porcelain or sandstone on a full mortar bed, with falls away from the house. Free site visit, fixed written price.

Builder patios are often laid on sand with no proper base, which is why the slabs rock and sink. We take them up and start again.
Many new-build gardens also hold water, because the ground was compacted during the build. We can sort the drainage at the same time as the patio.
On the estates around Heath Hayes, Hednesford, Norton Canes and Great Wyrley, the patio that comes with a new house is usually just big enough for a small table. When people replace it, they almost always want it bigger. A good rule is to allow room for the table with the chairs pulled out, plus a walkway round it, and we mark the size out on the ground on the visit so you can see how much lawn it leaves.
Many new-build gardens slope gently towards the house or the back fence, and the ground was often packed hard by machines during the build. That means rainwater can sit on the surface or run towards the back door. We set the patio with a fall away from the house and, where needed, add a channel drain by the back door or a soakaway in the lawn.
Around Chadsmoor and Bridgtown, where older terraces and semis have narrower gardens, a patio often works best as a full-width strip by the house with a path down the garden. Porcelain in a light grey keeps a narrow garden feeling bright, and it does not go green as quickly in the shade of fences.
The finished patio needs to sit below the damp proof course of the house and fall gently away from it, so rain runs into the garden rather than against the walls. We check the levels and the access on the site visit, including how materials get in if there is no side gate.
Most back garden patios do not need planning permission. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Cannock Chase District Council before work starts, and we will happily talk it through with you.
Many of the estates around Cannock, Hednesford and Heath Hayes have narrow roads and tight parking, so we plan deliveries and the skip around your neighbours' cars before the job starts.
