A new patio is one of the most common jobs we price for in Walsall gardens. Whether it is a small space outside the back door of a terrace or a bigger area in Aldridge or Streetly, it needs to be level, drain away from the house and be finished properly.
We lay porcelain, Indian sandstone and natural stone on a full mortar bed, so nothing rocks. The site visit is free, with samples, and the price comes in writing.

In smaller gardens we often suggest one good-sized patio rather than lots of small areas, with a step down to the lawn. It makes the space feel bigger and more usable.
On larger plots, a patio with sleeper beds or a low wall around it turns it into somewhere to sit rather than just a hard surface outside the door.
Gardens in Walsall vary a lot, from short back yards behind terraces near the town centre to long, wide gardens in Aldridge, Streetly and Pelsall. A patio in a small garden should take the space it needs and no more, often running the full width of the house. In a bigger garden it is worth thinking about whether a path from the patio to a second area further down would make the whole space more usable.
Porcelain and Indian sandstone are the two choices most people weigh up. Porcelain is very hard wearing, does not need sealing and is easy to keep clean, which suits busy family gardens. Sandstone has natural colour variation and a softer, more traditional look, but it weathers and benefits from a clean now and then. We bring both to the visit so you can see them outdoors.
Around Bloxwich, Rushall and Park Hall, a lot of back gardens have a step or a slight drop from the back door to the lawn. We use that rather than fight it, setting the patio below the damp proof course by the house and using the fall to take rainwater towards the lawn or a drain.
The finished patio needs to sit below the damp proof course of the house and fall gently away from it, so rain runs into the garden rather than against the walls. We check the levels and the access on the site visit, including how materials get in if there is no side gate.
Most back garden patios do not need planning permission. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Walsall Council before work starts, and we will happily talk it through with you.
Near Walsall town centre a lot of houses have no side access, so materials and waste come and go through the front. On the bigger plots in Aldridge and Streetly there is usually room to keep the skip on the drive itself.
We cover all of Walsall, including Bloxwich, Aldridge, Pelsall, Rushall, Streetly, Shelfield and Park Hall. Walsall is about seven miles east of Wolverhampton, so we are never far away. If you are not sure whether we cover your street, call us and we will tell you straight away.
