PATIOS IN WILLENHALL

Porcelain and sandstone patio in Willenhall
Patios in Willenhall

A patio is often the first thing people change in a Willenhall garden. A level, well drained space by the house makes the whole garden easier to use, from summer evenings to drying the washing.

We dig out, lay a compacted base and bed every slab on mortar, with proper falls and pointing. Free site visit, fixed written price.

PATIOS FOR WILLENHALL HOMES

Local

Old patios that rock, crack or hold puddles usually have the same problem: no proper base. We take them up and lay the new one on a full mortar bed.

Indian sandstone is still a favourite for its warm colours, while porcelain is easier to keep clean. We bring both to the visit.

PATIO LAYOUTS FOR WILLENHALL GARDENS

Good to know

Many gardens around Short Heath, New Invention and Lane Head are a good size but have never had much done to them beyond a lawn and a few slabs by the back door. A new patio is usually the start of sorting the whole garden out, so we plan it with the rest in mind: where a path might go, where the shed sits and where the washing line needs to be.

Patios on the shady side of a house, or under trees, go green faster. In those spots, porcelain with a lightly textured finish is easier to keep clean and less slippery than smooth stone. On a sunny, south-facing patio, a lighter colour stays cooler underfoot in summer, while warmer sandstone tones can suit an older house.

In Portobello and closer to the town centre, gardens behind older terraces are narrower, and the back door can be close to the boundary. There we keep the patio simple, with a straight run of slabs, a neat edge and a clear fall away from the house towards a gully or the garden, so rainwater never sits against the back wall.

HOW WE WORK ON PATIO JOBS IN WILLENHALL

How we do it
  1. Mark out and dig to the right depth below the damp proof course.
  2. Build a compacted sub-base.
  3. Lay the slabs on a full mortar bed with a gentle fall.
  4. Point the joints and leave it clean.

PLANNING YOUR PATIO IN WILLENHALL

Before we start

The finished patio needs to sit below the damp proof course of the house and fall gently away from it, so rain runs into the garden rather than against the walls. We check the levels and the access on the site visit, including how materials get in if there is no side gate.

Most back garden patios do not need planning permission. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with Walsall Council before work starts, and we will happily talk it through with you.

Some older houses in Willenhall share an entry with next door. If that is the only way through to the back, we plan the work around it and keep it clear for your neighbours.
