Tarmac works well on Sedgley's sloping drives when it is laid with the right edging and drainage. It gives a smooth, grippy surface that is ready to use quickly.
We set the levels so water drains away from the house, build a compacted base and roll the tarmac tight. The site visit is free and you get a written price.

On a hill, the bottom of the drive is where water collects. A channel drain there, or by the garage, is often the difference between a dry garage and a wet one.
We edge tarmac with blocks or kerbs on slopes, so it stays put and the edges do not break away over time.
On Sedgley's steeper drives, tarmac has a few things going for it. It grips well, it has no joints to wash out, and it is laid hot, so it bonds into one solid surface. The catch is that hot tarmac wants to move downhill while it is being rolled, so the edging has to be set first and set firmly, and the rolling has to be done in the right order.
Around Upper Gornal, Lower Gornal and Woodsetton, many drives meet the house or a garage at the top of the slope. We make sure the finished level stays below the damp proof course and the garage threshold, and add a channel drain where the drive meets the building so water does not run in during heavy rain.
Higher ground around the Beacon gets its share of frost and ice. A tarmac drive with a good surface texture and no standing water copes with that far better than one with dips and puddles, which is why we set the falls carefully. On longer, steeper drives in Gospel End and Cotwall End we sometimes add a level landing part way up to break the run.
If your kerb is not already dropped, you need permission from Dudley Council before you can drive across the pavement in Sedgley. It is worth applying early, because approval is not instant. We measure up with the kerb in mind so the driveway lines up with it.
Paving more than five square metres of a front garden needs planning permission from Dudley Council, unless the rainwater drains into a border, a soakaway or a permeable surface on your own property. We plan the drainage on the site visit so your driveway meets the rule.
On Sedgley's hillside plots we look first at where the water goes in heavy rain, because a new hard surface can change where it runs, and the house should never be at the bottom of it.
We cover all of Sedgley, including Upper Gornal, Lower Gornal, Woodsetton, Cotwall End and Gospel End. Sedgley is about four miles south of Wolverhampton, so we are never far away. If you are not sure whether we cover your street, call us and we will tell you straight away.
